Graduation countdown.

I graduate from Virginia Tech one month from today. I’ll graduate with a degree in political science with a concentration in law, with honors. My cap and gown just arrived in the mail today. Commencement is at the same time as I’m supposed to be in Sorensen, so I’ll have to leave our session (in Harrisonburg) a few hours early and drive like hell down to Blacksburg, just in time to walk.

It’s going to be a hectic next month — I have tests and papers and the like, but, in particular, I’ve really thrown myself into an independent study this semester, which is writing a campaign plan for the Kaine campaign. Not for them — I’m not going to give it to them (I can’t see why they’d want it) — but writing one as if I were managing the campaign. I’m shooting for 35 pages, and I’ve really been enjoying it. I’m doing this independent study pass/fail, so it doesn’t really matter how good it is, but I’m not doing it so much for the credit as because I really want to do it. I just wrapped up months of research a couple of weeks ago, and I’m turning notes and dogeared pages into what is rapidly turning into a campaign plan. And that’s what’s going to keep me busy for the next 30 days.

  1. Congratulations!!! I’m still a good two years away from my degree (I only go part time since I have three full time jobs – mom, wife, civil servant). I figure by the time my son starts kindergarten I might be finished and by that time I’ll be staying home with him anyways. I still want that damned piece of paper though.

Congrats again – the campaign plan sounds like a fun project.

  2. Congrats! With any luck, I will be there to see my daughter “walk.”

I’ll look for you and give you a hand.

Perhaps you should reconsider not giving your paper to the Kaine camp.

I think they could use some help ….

That’s great about your daughter, Will — what’s she getting her degree in?

You might be on to something there. :)

  4. CONGRATS!!!

Enjoy the walk. I plan to skip mine when I finally graduate this August. Folks can come see me when I recieve my Masters (the thick envelope from GWU came yesterday :)

  5. Well, LT, looks like congratulations all around.

I hope to get a similar thick envelope a little less than a year from now myself. From 2 years in Rhode Island to 2 years in Mississippi. Did I mention I like contrasts?

Ever notice how every time someone gets into college in the movies it’s always a one page letter?

I’d skip mine if my family wasn’t so eager to see me walk. (At the age of 26, presumably they figured it would never happen.)

Now that’s something to show up for. Congratulations on your good news.
