Gilmore on economy, gross hypocricy.

This is just so rich. If it were a slice of cheesecake, I couldn’t take one more bite, really.

“I have to say, the governor’s budget staff knows what’s going on with respect to the economy at any point in time. This was no surprise,” Gilmore told The Augusta Free Press.

“For anyone to suggest that they didn’t know that we were headed toward the kind of surplus that we ended up getting while all this talk was going on about how we needed to raise taxes is disingenuous at best,” said Gilmore, who has been rumored to be considering making a run at the 2005 Republican Party gubernatorial nomination against frontrunner Jerry Kilgore, Virginia’s attorney general.

Really, Mr. Gilmore? Virginia governors can foresee these sort of economic changes a year or two out?

Would you like to rethink that answer?

  1. It would be fun to see Gilmore take a shot at Kilgore. Boy would that get nasty fast. I’d love to see them burn some Republican dough beating the crap our of eachother.

  2. Yeah, I’m almost hoping for a nomination challenge, because it would be so bloody and expensive, and probably leave the nominee damaged goods, so much mud would be hurled.

OTOH, if Kilgore just gets the nomination without a fuss, they’ll have a weak candidate who can be beat all the more easily. Kilgore has worked hard to build up an image as being a tough guy to defeat, but this first Kilgore/Kaine debate made clear that Kaine’s no push-over, and Kilgore is more than a little “French.” :)
