Charlottesville Democratic committee reorganization.

Once every couple of years, we Charlottesville Democrats redefine who we are. The core of the party is the 100 people who serve on the Central Committee. These are the people who run the show. If you are a Charlottesville Democrat and you want to run the show — and I encourage you to want to do so — I strongly encourage you to show up at the next reorganization meeting and stand for election to represent your precinct. See Charlottesville Democratic Chairman Lloyd Snook’s below announcement for details.

Dear Democrats:

The every-two-years reorganization meeting of the Charlottesville Democratic Party will take place on Tuesday, December 7, at 7:00 PM in the Buford Middle School cafeteria.

This is the meeting at which we elect our precinct and City Committees, who will then at a meeting in January choose our officers for the next two years.

Please come to this meeting — with all of the work that we need to do before November, 2005, it is essential that we choose City Committee members who will do what needs to be done.

I hope that you will consider being a member of the Committee. City Committee members are expected to do three things:

1. Attend meetings of the City Committee. For the last 4 years, we have had meetings once every calendar quarter. These meetings are the times when we deal with the organization of the local Democratic Party. It’s not always exciting, but it is very important work.

2. Help keep your precinct organized between elections — identify Democrats, recruit volunteers, talk to your neighbors and friends and enlist them.

3. Help in the campaign — not just on Election Day, but in the weeks before as well.

We need Committee members who will take seriously all three responsibilities.

Every one of the 100 spots on the Committee is up for election. In addition, we have alternates, who participate fully in the life of the Party as well.

This is a business meeting, but we will adjourn with refreshments and some chances for socializing as well. So come and let’s begin to get organized for 2005!
