Downtown street festival.

Tents and people's heads, with a big, blue sky.I woke up this morning to Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer” playing very, very loudly. Ah, yes — the Steppin’ Out Street Fair. This is a two-day annual event in which all of downtown Blacksburg is shut down for people to sell crap. Tie-dyed t-shirts, fabric lizard puppets, hippie clothing…the usual stuff. Dozens and dozens of venders selling virtually nothing that I would ever buy.

The event blocked off my parking lot, I had to drive over grass and curbs and then couldn’t get back, I had to beg a space at the town office building…it’s a bad scene. The whole thing makes me grumpy, but I’ve just had a couple of glasses of this $3.95 bottle of Liebfraumilch, so I think that now, in a considerably-improved mood, I’ll head out and take it all in.
