Well, for starters, I'm at work. :) But I am on a break at the moment, so I can tell you that you can follow the whole affair at cvillenews.com, where folks are following the tally pretty closely.

SBE page has Tom up by 30 votes, out of 315,000 cast.

I thought I would come to Waldo's blog and get some insights into this nail biter. But, not so much. What gives???

If Perriello loses by a few votes, you can chalk them up to that blatantly dishonest flyer the state democratic party sent out a couple weeks ago, which claimed that Goode wants to 'raise your taxes 23%'.

If anybody is scared I would think it is the party that sinks to flat-out lying.

I would expect that anyone who calls themselves progressive and in favor of 'change' would support changing our broken and inequitable tax system. Instead we see support for the status quo establishment.

With two precincts to report, it looks to me like Goode will pull into the lead by ~200 votes. So we'll have to move onto the provisional ballots.

This is going to go to a recount, no matter who comes out on top tonight. And, FWIW, it looks to me like Goode is going to come out on top this evening, but I sure wouldn't put any money on the line.

CNN has taken Virgil off as the projected winner and Tom is pulling ahead...still too close to call but its incredible that it has come to this. 97% in and Tom is ahead by about 600 votes-unbelievable!

Still, if Virgil does win, he should serve out his term quietly and then retire gracefully if he wants to be remembered w/ any kind of dignity and respect. He is not what this area needs anymore...we need real results.

Oh, if Tom doesn't win this time around --- and I hope and pray he does! but if he doesn't --- I have all my fingers and toes crossed that he will run again. In that case, he should take a few weeks off. But I won't. I've already started trying to collect more donations and more volunteers for him.

My two year old is ready for the job of campaign volunteer. She already does a better job of pronouncing his name than the incumbent does. GO TOM PERRY-LELLO! AND BAWOCK-OBAMA-YES-WE-CAN!

The background is, of course, important. And you're correct on all points. But sometimes we over-emphasize process. None of that would matter if Periello weren't first a good candidate: articulate, intelligent, and right on the issues for his district. A great political machine is no good without the right person driving it.

I vote for him being an ass through and through.

I think part of this whole good ol boy schtick is just an act. He is scared, and he has most likely lost this race already.

If people in the local area to the debate tonight had not decided, then the performance of Goode, and everything there is to not like about him, then tonight's horrible performance by Goode was not likely to sway anyone; rather, he likely drove voters away, if only to not vote if they just can't see voting for someone other than Virgil.

I know this is rambling, but it's late, it's election eve, and dog-gone it, I am due.
