Manhattan’s carless experiment.

Manhattan will shut down a seven-mile stretch of roads for the next three Sundays, from 7am-1pm. The route stretches from Central Park clear south to Chinatown. I forecast that this will be seen as an enormous success, though maybe I’m confusing my hopes with my expectations.

The Summer Saturdays program is AWESOME. It’s a little tricky to navigate because it’s so crowded, but that just demonstrates that there is high demand for pedestrian and bike-friendly routes in the city.
