Happy Financial Aid Awareness Month.

We’ve got a day for everything in Virginia. Dale Earnhardt Day, Covered Bridge Weekend, Save Today for Tomorrow Day, Bataan Day of Valor and Sleep Awareness Week. Can I get this in a printed calendar?

  1. Financial Aid awareness? That is only slightly more exciting that colon cancer awareness. Does anyone want to be reminded of the misery of dealing with Financial Aid in college?

  2. I actually think “financial aid awareness month” is a good idea, if done right so that it’s effective. When I was a high school senior, many of my classmates and their parents seemed completely unaware of the FAFSA or that middle class families could still benefit from filling one out, instead opting to apply for higher-interest private loans. And I had no idea that with my family’s income level, I could’ve attended at least two public universities in Virginia completely free. High school guidance counselors try but have too heavy of a student load to help each individual much.
