Lunar eclipse.

Eclipse

Last year’s eclipse was cloudy, but the pictures actually came out better. Now I have hundreds of near-identical photos of a red-glowing moon, some shot through my tripod-mounted telephoto lens, some through my 8″ Dobsonian telescope. Why didn’t it occur to me to do something interesting, like take a wide-angle long-exposure shot and use a flashlight to make the trees all aglow? Maybe I’ll get it right in 2010.

This year’s lunar eclipse was, in my opinion, a cliched re-hash of last year’s lunar eclipse. Totally unoriginal.

I’ve got a different take on the eclipse here:

The forecast called for cloudy skies and snow showers. I almost forgot to watch.

Then I stepped outside and saw fat stars and a moon sporting all three dimensions, looking like translucent henna-colored glass. What a miracle.

I’d love to be able to take pictures through a telescope. I need to learn that stuff.

Never heard of a Dobsonian telescope before now, but the term instantly brought to my mind a cross between “Draconian” and James Dobson.

Good job! My attempt yielded a mediocre result because I couldn’t adjust the exposure properly, even though I have succeeded in past “lunar shots.”
