Carry me back to the Carter Family Fold.

I wholeheartedly support making “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” the state song, though I agree with Jim Bacon that it would have to be The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s version, Californian though they may be.

  1. But which one of the Dirt Band’s versions? The best of them is the original from Volume I, of course, but just because it was their original. However, I would argue the version on Volume III with Taj Mahal and Alison Krauss is superior simply because of Taj Mahal.

It’s just my opinion, but anything that Taj Mahal has done is better than anything anyone else has ever done.

  2. Piper,

If there had been anyone else opposite Taj Mahal, I would have agreed with you. Allison Krauss’ voice is piercing, true to the note, to the words. I quite like her, can you tell? I think I am in love with her.

I also agree about the song. It is one of my favorites, and has been for quite some time. NGDB was very popular growing up in Colorado, and Volume I is a musical masterpiece. The song, even though the lyrics aren’t about Virginia, is an excellent suggestion.

  3. I didn’t realize until literally last night that there was a difference between the American Blues Musician Taj Mahal and the 70’s Japanese experimental heavy-psych group Taj Mahal Travellers.

Although I was, of course, able to distingish both of them from the big building in India.
