Via opensecrets Goode gave to two other former members of the House Appropriations with troubles - Jerry Lewis and Tom Delay. Those two are the only contributions listed for Goode in the 2006 cycle.

Waldo, the article says “Reps. Jerry Lewis (R-Calif.) and Virgil Goode (R-Va.) gave a combined $3,000.” So not all of the $3,000 came from Goode. Some was from Lewis (another scandal-plagued congressman). As an individual, Goode wouldn’t be able to give more than $2,300, would he?

I’d noticed that curious language, too, KC, though I’d drawn the opposite conclusion: that they’d given $3k each, and CBS had simply phrased it poorly. After all, why choose to lump together two presumably unrelated contributions and report them as a single contribution? I checked OpenSecrets, but they didn’t have a record of the transaction, so I went with it. The FEC lists it at $1,000, though, so clearly you’re right — Lewis gave $2k and Goode gave $1k. I’ve corrected this blog entry accordingly.

And, for the record, Goode could give up to $4,600, but Doolittle’s campaign would have been obliged to bank anything over $2,300 until after the primary.

Yes, lumping them together is weird. Though it’s looking increasing like Doolittle, Lewis, and Goode all deserve to be lumped together, perhaps even in a cell.
