Who can patron a bill on energy farming?

I’d like to find a legislator to introduce a bill making small-scale energy farming a viable business practice (as I’ve described here before.) Thing is, I want the bill to pass, so I’m probably looking for a Republican with a good history of bills affecting the energy sector. Any suggestions?

  1. Waldo,

Can we make this some sort of challenge, with a web site and all?

We could come up with the foundation for a couple bills . . . improving net metering to be one of them.

That would be awesome . . . and you know we could do this when we have FREE TIME . . . right?

  2. I suggest you look at Ed Scott right up the road in Culpeper/Madison. He is on the Science and Technology, Agriculture, and Transportation. I believe his undergrad degree is from VT in Animal Sciences. He is also the manager for the the Farmers Coop in the Culpeper region.

That hadn’t crossed my mind, but, now that I think about it, that might be useful. I’d rather find a legislator to patron it and see what s/he thinks before doing anything like that (it could backfire), but that may well be a good idea. Best to partner with one or more existing organizations, what with the free time problem. :)

Good suggestion on Del. Scott, Jeff. I’ll have to paw through his bills and see what he’s done on the topic, but the committee assignment and party membership are both two very good starts.

  4. Waldo,

Drop me a line or give me a call. My opposition to the Dominion transmission line proposal through my district may have taken me off their Christmas card list, but this sounds like an idea worth exploring.

  5. Waldo,

To bad you’re looking for an R to carry this legislation. When I win on 6 Nov I’m going to submit several bills that will further the green agenda but alas I’m a D so I’ll have to go it alone.

Of course my amazing victory will have turned the GA blue so we will have some additional horsepower to do some righteous things, in the ‘sunlight’!

This won’t be easy as Dominion has done a great job of greasing the political skids for a ‘grid centric’ energy policy, but there are opportunities.

Opposing the Dominion powerline has really gotten me into alternatives to a flawed energy policy.

Keep the dialog going. As we say at my church (a green sanctuary) “Green is the new Red, White, and Blue”
