Libby judge “perplexed” by pardon.

TPM: The Bush-appointed judge who sentenced Scooter Libby is perplexed by Bush’s declaration that the sentence was “excessive”, since the sentence was at the bottom of federal guidelines, which AG Gonzales called “a minimum for judges, not merely a suggestion” just six weeks ago. Presumably President Bush will seek to relax the sentencing guidelines for perjury and obstruction of justice.

  1. The Libby sentence “exceeded” the maximum prison time that Bush could reliably expect Libby to keep his mouth shut.

  2. I just don’t get how Republicans (note – not conservatives. I’m talking party faithful here) can even start to defend this ongoing crap.

I don’t personally care about Libby, but the hypocracy that goes along with all of this whole ordeal (and by hypocracy I mean the say one thing to pander to your base then do the opposite to pander to your base) is just unconscionable.
