No children, no marriage.

The Washington Defense of Marriage Alliance has gotten an initiative on the ballot that would void any marriage that does not produce children within three years. If the purpose of marriage is to reproduce — as opponents of gay marriage insist — then this should be a no-brainer for them. Right? (Via MeFi)

  1. Excellent! It would be even better if it got passed! Now if only something like that happened in VA too.

  2. I’m with you Zen. I’m a woman (married to a man) and how can you be “forced” to have children that you don’t want? Won’t that open the door to abused and neglected children? Won’t that threaten an already happy marriage for a couple that chose not to have children? This is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.

  3. I think that this whole idea is a great and also like Tim said “a jab at social conservatives” I believe that if this was passed, a lot of people who are not married and do not plan on getting married but have child(ren) with another person would have a lot more responsibility on there hands then just being able to leave their child behind. I see this happening too much in CA. I STRONGLY AGREE WITH THIS BALLOT.
