Man, I just can’t get away from G & S. I worked for the Washington Savoyards, which almost solely performs G & S, for many many years and just left them a few months ago.
I’ve always been partial to “Baby Got Book.”
Baby got it goin’ on.
Like the wife in Proverbs 31.
That’s priceless! I’ve watched three times already.
Brilliant.
I fear two things have caught my attention (once again revealing what a big nerd I am):
1) Technically, since they’re using the original words, this would just be Sir Arthur Sullivan and Sir Mix-A-Lot, as Sir Gilbert wrote the lyrics, and Sullivan wrote the music;
2) From a performance standpoint, there should have been a lot more echoing of the words that the major general was singing by the chorus. For example, when the Major General sang, “Gimme a sister, can’t resist her, beans and rice didn’t miss her,” the chorus should have come back with something like “No oh no they can’t resist her, beans and rice certainly didn’t miss her,” or somesuch. They did that a bit at the end, but more in the middle would have worked a bit better.
Good concept though, but I think just a little bit more would have made it world-class. You know, for the nerds. ;)
