  1. Really? I thought it was rather cruel.

When you write, please don’t always write in black and white. Don’t always assume all people who believe in a certain ideology behave a certain way.

    I didn’t — I asked a question, rather than assuming an answer.

  3. I agree with Mr. Hoeft. You have oversimplified this matter of discussion and the people questioning it, even if only by implying as much. You may have asked a question, but there is a direction you are hoping for it to go.

It also brings up the question of micro- vs. macro-evolution. As evolution as most people know it is macro-evolution or speciation, many creationists question it. But Doonsebury is dealing with micro-evolution, which is not as heavily disputed and does not prove anything but Trudeau’s ignorance.

  4. the supposed distinction between micro- versus macro- evolution does not hold up. Once you grant the possibility of evolution at any level, the question is where there is any possibility of a limit. Our definition of species is somewhat artificial to begin with, and certainly would not have held true at various points of what is clear in the record – biologic and anthropological among others.

Of course, one can take the lazy way out of explaining the clear fossil record by claiming that an all-powerful being created the world with those fossils already existing… oh yeah, and all the carbon dating which takes stuff back well before 4004 BC (thank you James Ussher).

Sorry — it is a somewhat artificial thought process to grant the existence of micro-evolution while denying the possibility of macro-evolution, especially given the abundance of scientific evidence for both.

    So flame away.

  5. Didn’t the distinction between “macro-evolution” and “micro-evolution” come out of the creationist camp?

Anyway, I once wrote a program to simulate simple selection, and it surprised me by displaying punctuated equilibrium and other “deep” characteristics of biological evolution. It really is that simple, and I don’t understand how people can even argue about it.

  6. Who will be left for the doctors who actually believe in God to make fun of?
