Kaine to give SOTU response.

I’ve been out of the house all day — I had to give a presentation on blogging, help move my grandmother into a new apartment, and work — so I’m just now catching up on the day’s events. I’m thrilled to read that Governor Kaine has been selected to give the Democratic response to the State of the Union address, as suggested five weeks ago. I believe now, as I believed then, that Kaine is a perfect pick. He’s not running for president, which makes him unthreatening to the leadership, his recent victory is a real feather in Democrats’ caps, he’s a centrist, and yet he’ll make Warner look great, since Kaine is regarded as Warner’s protege.

Best of all, Governor Kaine isn’t Senator Minority Leader Harry Reid or House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, each of whom might be great minority leaders, but damn are they bad speakers.

    :-D

  2. Yea, I agree, Kaine is a great speaker and a great choice!

In speaking, Kaine connects; and can drop a Bible verse, which only those of faith catch on, while others think it a poignant universal message…and how nice!

I went on Digby’s Web site and people were bemoaning the fact that Kaine was an unknown and clamoring for Murtha to be the Democratic response to the president’s SOTU.

And like good little sheep, worthy of Jim Jones, posts all agreed. No offense to Murtha, but I doubt Bush is gonna spend a lot of time on Iraq, and Kaine will a better counterpuncher with his message of faith and service.

The nation will fall in love with Kaine, just as well all have.

  3. Nancy Pelosi is a crappy, ineffective minority leader. They should have picked Harold Ford when Gephardt stepped down. Of course, then he probably wouldn’t be picking up this new Senate seat for us. Harry Reid, on the other hand, is the most brilliant, crafty Senate party leader since LBJ.

  4. ATA,
I’m 100% with you on both Pelosi and Harry Reid, still I think the whole Dem contingent is blowing the Culture of Corruption opportunity.

Reform isn’t really the solution. The real solution is enforcement.

By making this whole thing about changing the rules, the Dems make it sound like the problem is bipartizan, which it isn’t, and not an issue of republican bribery and racketeering, which it is.

Reid is a fighter, and I’m in his corner. I thing he may land some tough punches in this fight, but I havent’ seen the haymaker.

Maybe the the knockout punch will be Tim Kaine. The boundless energy, powerful positive progressivism and proven integrity of our new governor may be enough to convince America that a new direction is possible, maybe even inevitible.

  5. he’s a centrist

You should start offering complementary monitor wipes when you post things like this. Gonna take me a while to get all this diet coke off my screen.

    Man, that was funny.

  6. You’re so far to the right that you simply don’t know where the center is anymore.

Here’s the headline from the night that centrist Tim Kaine won:

    Democrat Kaine Wins in Virginia
Continuation Of Centrist Path Prevails Over Kilgore

Liberals don’t win in this state, least of all by 5%. They never have. But, hey, keep hanging out on the fringe there. We Democrats will just keep winning. You just keep moving to the right and shaking your tiny fists.
