Deeds gap shrinks by a third.
Creigh Deeds is 357 votes from overtaking Bob McDonnell in the AG race. I expected the count to be finished by now; happily, I was wrong.

You should be happy for the Commonwealth. Both of these gentlemen will make fine AGs. I voted for Deeds, but think McDonnell would do well.

“The results are clear. Bob McDonnell has won the race for attorney general,” said McDonnell campaign manager Janet Polarek. “It is surprising that a candidate who announced a recount team and lost after the certified results from each locality were turned in would announce a transition team.”

I think it’s funny that the campaign manager would say this…”The results are clear?” 357 votes is clear? Now THAT is political grandstanding!

.357
I thought that was what McDonnell wanted to keep us from being able to freely buy. Strange.

Funny that a Democrat (yes, I’m admittedly assuming here) would criticize McDonnell for supporting the one-gun-a-month law that was primarily pushed by and overwhelmingly supported by Democrats, including Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, not to mention the FOP.
…
Tom — why is 357 votes not clear? If all the votes are in and certified, it would seem that whoever has the most votes is the clear winner.
And Agitator is 100% correct. Either of these fine gentlemen will be an AG all Virginians should be proud of.

Not a Democrat, just a proud NRA member who hates gun rationers.

the vote counting adjustments are all going in Deeds way? Doesn’t that strike y’all as kinda weird..I followed the election and I suspect that Wilder not endorsing Deeds hurt him in NoVA and Richmond. And I’m also surpised that even with the NRA endorsement Deeds still lost the 5th and 9th CDs. Just seems weird it all does

They’re not all going Deeds’ way. Probably 25% of them result in a gain to McDonnell. But you’re right that the overall trend certainly favors him.

Indeed the net effect of the adjustments has been in favor of Deeds, care to comment on why this is the case and which particular counties are changing accordingly. Also, what do you think about his NRA endorsement that did not seem to move enough votes in the 9th and 5th CDs.

Oh..never mind on the counties (got the answer from Raising Kaine)..but since you are in C’ville and ergo in the 5th..can you still comment on my question about Deeds losing the 9th and the 5th CDs?

I really don’t have any interesting thoughts on that, despite those being the only two Virginia congressional districts that I’ve ever lived in. (Actually, I was in the 7th until redistricting, but the district moved, not me. :) I just don’t know how to establish a baseline of support in the 9th and the 5th — I don’t know what effect the NRA endorsement had in those areas. It may well have delivered a lot of votes to Creigh, or it may have done nothing at all.
Perhaps somebody else will have something more useful to add?
