Video Podcasting The Daily Show.

Much as Doug Wilder is the only guy who could overturn Dillon’s Rule right now, Jon Stewart is the only guy who could make video podcasting a viable business model right now.

I just devoured Wired’s interview with Stewart, in which the primary topic is people downloading clips of the show on-line and the future of the show. I was eager to see if Stewart would talk about selling access on-line, but the question was never asked and the answer never came.

I’m on the wrong side of the mountain to get broadcast TV, other than NBC-29, and fuzzily. They’re still charging for cable TV, and I don’t care for 99% of what’s on it, anyhow. But I’d certainly pay $5/month for a podcast subscription to The Daily Show.

If Stewart has the foresight to spearhead it and Viacom has the wisdom to allow it, The Daily Show could be the first show to circumvent television altogether.

I have DirecTV, but I watch nothing but baseball. I think I’m wasting my money, but I can’t get the ballgames any other way.

And if 29 were the only channel I could get, I don’t think I’d even own a television. I’ll never forget a roommate at UVa watching a fuzzy Conan O’Brien every night.
