New year’s resolution.

There’s just one this time around.

Become conscious of the environmental impact of my actions and, with that knowledge, reduce my ecological footprint.

Last year’s resolutions were just great. I couldn’t be more happy with how well that they went or the effect that they’ve had on my life. In particular, the second two (be health conscious, save money) went very well, and have given me a newfound enthusiasm about the value of new year’s resolutions.

  1. I made a similar decision a few weeks ago, when I heard about a magazine called Good that was started by a trust fund kid who opened a magazine that donates 100% of the subscription price to a charity you choose from a list. The entire magazine is about living responsibly, with an emphasis on being an eco-conscious consumer.

I found out about Terra Passes through the magazine’s website and signed up right away. I drive about once a week, but I like the thought that I’m driving a “balanced” car.

It’s a nice thought, but I don’t think that’s what they’re doing. :) They use that money to invest in renewable energy, which doesn’t actually offset your emissions, because it does nothing to remove the pollutants from the air. If they planted enough trees on protected lands to absorb enough pollutants to offset your output, that would balance things out. What they’re balancing out, I believe, is your (our :) guilt.
